Fighting for Peace

Sometimes peace doesn’t come easy.

Sometimes you have to fight for peace.

Sometimes it is a day by day, hour by hour, moment by moment battle.

When a storm crashes in and life grows really dark….when circumstances are unfair and unjust and you feel helpless to do anything to set all the wrongs right…when someone you love is suffering and hurting and broken….when life is unfair, and people are mean, and God seems silent to all your cries for help…that’s when peace is a battle.  That’s when living out what you say you believe is hard…a moment-by-moment struggle.

That’s when I have to remember Jesus’ words: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation.  But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:28)

You WILL have trouble.

But take heart.

He has overcome the world.

All these problems, all that is wrong, all these things that don’t make sense….He has overcome them.  There is a bigger picture, a bigger plan…we are only seeing a small part, a microscopic moment in a great grand story.

So when peace seems impossible…when God seems far away…when the rain is pounding and the waves are crashing and the walls are closing in….take heart.  Remember….He is still there…He is still good…He is in control…He has overcome.

He came so we could have peace.  Not that everything would be happy…or that we would always be all smiles…or even that we’d always feel peaceful……He came so we could have peace.  We have peace when we have Him…peace is through Him and in Him…Jesus IS peace.  In every circumstance.  In every difficulty.  In every tear we cry, in every heartache and every sadness and every hurt.  HE is our peace.

So on the days when your life is in turmoil and it looks more like a snapshot of chaos than a picture of peace…when you feel like you’re walking through the middle of a nightmare instead of on a pretty peaceful path….take heart. God has not let go.  He has not taken His pen off the story of your life.  He’s still writing. He’s still working.  Trust Him.  Through every difficult moment…as hard as it may be and has silent as God may seem…trust Him.

Living this out is easier said than done.  Sometimes it is a very difficult battle.  A war.  Sometimes you have to fight.

Today I am fighting.  And I am reminding my soul….moment by moment:

Take heart, my soul.  He has overcome the world!
